Preparing Your Dog for Boarding

Preparing Your Dog for Boarding

Your dog depends on you to watch out for him or her–even when you’ve got to be away and leave them in the care of a boarding kennel or dog hotel. The reality is that sometimes your human family and friends aren’t always equipped with the proper knowledge and patience to take care of your pup.

In those cases, you can depend on us at Sarasota Veterinary Center. As fellow pet owners and lovers, we have made sure our dog boarding services are comfortable and equipped to give your pet the best care while you’re away–so you can put your mind at ease.

Before bringing your pup in, we’ve compiled a list of some ways that you can prepare him for your departure and entering into a new and unfamiliar place.

  • Does your dog know his basic commands and is well socialized around other people and pets? If your pup displays signs of aggression or is otherwise unruly, he may not be a good candidate for this dog boarding Sarasota center.
  • Before you go on a long trip, try to bring your pup to our dog boarding Sarasota kennel for a weekend stay. It will get her used to being away and staying in a new place with new scents and pets. This will also give you the opportunity to work out any problems before boarding your pet for an extended period of time.
  • Once you’re sure that you’re going to bring your pup in for a longer stay, make sure that you have all of her food or any special medications. If you don’t use one of our in-house vets, provide us with your dog’s veterinarian’s phone number. Lastly, give our dog boarding Sarasota staff your contact information and a local emergency backup for you.
  • When you arrive with your dog at the dog boarding Sarasota facility, give our staff any helpful and useful information about your pet, such as any medical or behavior problems. That could include fear of rain or thunder or a history of shaking and apprehension. Once you’ve officially checked in, kiss your fur baby goodbye and leave. You want to avoid long drawn out farewells. It’ll help you and your pup!

While you’re away, feel free to contact us directly with any questions that you have about your pup and we’ll put your mind at ease!
