Bringing home a new puppy is like bringing home a new baby from the hospital. Before you leave the maternity ward with a new baby you get an educational talk from a nurse and have to watch a number of videos to prepare you for taking care of a new baby. Many new puppy owners do not get the luxury of such an education, but here at Sarasota Veterinary Center we put a major emphasis on educating new puppy owners on a myriad of details that will make their experience so much better.
Dr. Smith and his staff at Sarasota Veterinary Center are fortunate to see over 1200 puppies a year. That makes coming to work every day a lot of fun! The average veterinary clinic is lucky to see only 30 or 40 new puppies in a year whereas we see around 100 or more a month. We use our puppy pediatric expertise to guide new pet owners through this stressful, but fun time and teach them everything needed to know to raise a healthy, happy and well-behaved puppy.
The first few months are so important for their long-term development and overall health. It all starts with the first few days which can be quite stressful for a puppy who has just been taken from the only environment it has ever known. Decisions made about diet and behavior training are crucial at this important juncture in their young lives. We like to spend 30 or more minutes going over tips to make the right decisions and also answering any and all questions.
Typically the list of questions people forget to ask us is longer than the ones they do ask. For that reason we encourage new pet owners to call us at any time as no question is too big or too small. We are thrilled to be able to help new pet owners with the latest addition to their family because We Love Pets And It Shows!
